Richard Nolen of Tucson, Ariz., gave his daughter Brittney (Nolen) Kiel a ride she’ll never forget. The day: July 29. The place: Rosewood Christian Reformed Church in Bellflower, Calif. The occasion: Brittney’s wedding day.

Brittney had asked her father to take her down the aisle and give his blessing in her marriage to Jeremy Kiel. Since breaking his neck 23 years ago in a football accident,
Richard has used a wheelchair to get around—so he wheeled Brittney in her bridal gown down the aisle on his lap. “It was my idea—I’ve wanted that ever since I was a little girl,” said Brittney. “Most girls dream about their dress and the decorations, but I dreamed of my dad taking me down the aisle on his lap. [It] has always been a loving, safe place for me.”
