Henry Hess was recently appointed to the executive of the National Council of Churches’ communications commission.

The NCC represents 45 million Christians in the United States.

Hess, communications director for the Christian Reformed Church, has been involved with the NCC for a number of years. He said he is excited about the appointment.

“I have found this to be a really good group to be associated with, and I always come away from it feeling inspired,” he said. “It’s good to get together with colleagues who speak the same language and who are trying to accomplish the same things as I am.”

While 35 denominations are part of the NCC, more than 50 work in partnership with the ecumenical organization. “The CRC is not a member, but it participates in the work of the commission. It gives us the opportunity to work together to advance the kingdom, in this case through use of the media, with colleagues from other denominations,” said Hess.

The NCC’s communications commission is made up of professionals who work in print, broadcast, film, Web, news, and media relations at the national church-wide level for many Christian groups in the United States and Canada.

Hess’s four-year appointment begins in January 2008.
