Iowa’s Western Christian High Snags Title

Jim Eekhoff, the boys’ basketball coach at Western Christian High School, Hull, Iowa, didn’t expect his young team to take the 2A State Boys’ Basketball Championship.

“Not in my wildest dreams—not this year,” Eekhoff said. But the Wolfpack team ignored their underdog position and their opponent’s undefeated record.

The Wolfpack handily won three games, including the final against Mid-Prairie.

Senior Jon Vogel of Rock Valley’s Trinity Christian Reformed Church thought all along it was possible. “If we played well, we had a chance to win,” he said.
