Rev. Jeff Voorhees was on his way to visit a parishioner on Nov. 21 when his car slid on icy roads into a tractor-trailer. Vorhees died at the scene.

Voorhees, age 37, was pastor of Drenthe Christian Reformed Church in Zeeland, Mich. He leaves behind his wife of 11 years, Kate, and their four children, ages 9 months to 6 years.

Kel Busscher, chair of the church’s council, said Voorhees had begun at their church just over a year ago as an interim pastor. Six months later the church called him, Voorhees accepted, and he was installed.

The church held a prayer service on the evening of the accident. “We had a tremendous turnout,” said Busscher. “He was very dedicated.”

Busscher remembered how Voorhees often pulled his young children around in a wagon while getting to know people in the community.

Voorhees served Pine Creek CRC in Holland, Mich., for seven years prior to coming to Drenthe CRC.
