The girls soccer team from Eastern Christian High School in North Haledon, N.J., won the non-public B state final for the first time in their history. This year they won 2-1 over Bishop Eustace, a Roman Catholic school that is almost twice as large as Eastern Christian. Last year, in their first appearance in the state finals, they lost 2-1 to the same school.

Twenty-five-year coach Barry Veenstra gave special note to the play of Kelsey Spoelstra, a sophomore who scored both goals; Nicole Struyk, who was the top scorer for the team this year; and Joanna Switzer, who was an All North Jersey player along with Nicole.
