Growing up, the Bentum sisters were not the best of friends, but now the Woodstock, Ontario, women plan to spend a whole lot of time together. Denise, 19, and Heidi, 22, from Maranatha Christian Reformed Church in Woodstock, will cycle together for nine weeks on the Sea to Sea Bike Tour.

Denise is excited to finally be able to do something concrete for those suffering from poverty. “I’ve always had a heart for those in need. When I was growing up, I always wondered why we couldn’t do more [to end poverty].”

Heidi added this will be a good time to connect with her sister. “Since we’ve gone to Redeemer University College together, we’ve grown to be friends. The tour hopefully will bring us even closer together.”

And she believes riding Sea to Sea will also broaden her spiritual life. “This is just a huge event that is going to bring me closer to God. It’s small in the scheme of things, but the tour is another way we can see God’s power.”
