CrossPoint Christian Reformed Church in Chino, Calif., recently opened its own School of the Arts, with eight instructors teaching classes in art, dance, drama, and music for children and adults.

Coordinator Jamie Wiersma said the most popular classes have been jazz dance and ballet, a beginners’ guitar class, and a “Mommy and Me” music class. Private lessons are also offered.

Wiersma said the goal of the school is to incorporate a Christian perspective into fine arts opportunities in a safe Christian environment. She said that by enhancing fine arts skills, students can get involved in the worship services of the church as musicians and as dancers in church dramas.

The 70 students enrolled range in age from 18 months to adulthood.
