The Christian Reformed World Relief Committee (CRWRC) is the relief and development organization of the Christian Reformed Church. CRWRC responds to the needs of people around the world who are suffering from poverty, hunger, disaster, and injustice. CRWRC also serves as a resource for volunteer opportunities, advocacy ideas, and educational materials about hunger, poverty, community development, and justice.

What’s New

Internationally, CRWRC began a relief response to the global food crisis. Thanks to the contributions of donors and increased funding from the government, CRWRC was able to respond with more than $10 million in food projects. It also responded to Cyclone Nargis in Burma, Typhoon Frank in the Philippines, and Cyclone Sidr in Bangladesh.

Relief activities were extended in Sudan, Chad, and Liberia, and newly extended to Iraqi refugees and to Kenya. Food-crisis victims were assisted in Uganda, Mozambique, Haiti, Mali, Pakistan, and Mexico. CRWRC concluded the year by celebrating the completion of its work in Sri Lanka, where more than 900 homes were rebuilt after the 2004 tsunami.

In North America, CRWRC’s Disaster Response Services (DRS) continued to focus on regional recovery from Hurricane Katrina, and in addition responded to Midwest flooding and tornado damage. A total of 3,122 volunteers served in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. Fifty-five percent of these volunteers were part of church or school workgroups serving one-week terms.

Partnering with more than 100 churches and community organizations, CRWRC staff and volunteers work in 29 countries to help people overcome illiteracy, hunger, HIV/AIDS, and poverty. CRWRC helps local leaders identify needs, develop solutions, and carry out programs that lead to lasting change.

CRWRC receives no ministry shares and relies on the prayers and financial support of individuals and churches. For information about how you can get involved in advocacy efforts, volunteer opportunities, financial support, or local community development, visit www.crwrc.org.
