The Sheboygan Christian–Sheboygan Lutheran high school boys soccer team won the 2021 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division IV state championship in November.
“This was a special season with a special group of guys,” said coach Dan Oppeneer, who explained the coaches had two goals for the season—to win the state championship and to represent Christ, living in to the school’s Colossians 3:17 theme of the year. “I am proud of our accomplishments in both goals,” Oppeneer said. He and his family attend Oostburg (Wisc.) Christian Reformed Church.
The soccer team has been part of a co-op program between the Sheboygan Christian and Lutheran schools since 2011. This is their first state championship as a unified team, but they won their other conference title, the Big East Conference Championship, two years running.
In addition to the state championship title, many of the team members achieved individual recognition. Nathan Richardson, Josiah Stecker, and Tony Schmitz were first team All-Conference. Michael Modahl also had that distinction as well as the Big East Defensive Player of the Year and Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association All-State Team. Nate Alsum, Caleb Hendrikse, and Bobby Moeller earned second team All-Conference. Caden Solle received an All-Conference honorable mention.
