When Lysa TerKeurst, author of Uninvited, received the final page proofs of that book in the mail, her own words delivered “life back into a soul hanging on by a thread.” Since completing it, TerKeurst had experienced a shocking ordeal that upended her life. She grappled with rejection and disappointment like never before.
As TerKeurst wrote It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way, she encountered further disappointments. Not only had her husband been unfaithful to her; she also received a diagnosis of cancer.
Feeling vulnerable and publicly exposed, TerKeurst clung to God. In her narrative, she explores the nature of life between two gardens: the garden of Eden and “Eden restored,” when Christ will return to earth to make all things new. TerKeurst’s goal is “to learn to wrestle well in this life between two gardens.” She also wants “to open the gift of disappointment and release the atmosphere of hope contained within.”
Each chapter of this accessible, conversational, and warm-hearted book ends with a useful summary, pertinent Scripture passages, questions for reflection, and a prayer. (Thomas Nelson)
