As a member of Rain for Roots, Ellie Holcomb had a hand in creating two excellent albums of children’s music. Her solo career took off, and she had to leave that band to pursue her own music. After two excellent solo albums for adults, Holcomb returns to children’s music with her new EP (short album), Sing: Creation Songs.
These seven songs, all based on Scripture, speak words of hope and joy in a way that both children and adults will appreciate. The passages that Holcomb sings bring comfort. In “Fear Not,” for example, based on Isaiah 43, we hear “Fear not, for I have redeemed you. I’ve called you by name, you are mine.” This song and others like “Do Not Worry” and “Wide, High, Long, Deep” speak truth to children and adults, helping us focus on God’s sovereignty and on the joy we have in being part of his family.
This is a great set of songs for a child to hear before bedtime or in the car. Some of the songs would also work well for children to sing in a group at church. A companion board book called Who Sang the First Song? is also available. (Full Heart Music)
