As the 2014-2015 school year draws to a close, students, teachers, and school boards will transition to new classrooms, buildings, and leadership. Christian Schools International (CSI) is undergoing a transition of its own as Dave Koetje retires after 10 years as president/CEO and Joel Westa succeeds him. CSI is a global organization of Christian schools, many of which were founded by and are still supported by Christian Reformed churches.
In a press release, Koetje said, “As I leave Christian Schools International, I leave an organization that is positioned to bring enhanced value to Christian schooling around the globe. God has gifted Joel with both experience and insight to help Christian schooling flourish in rapidly changing times.”
Westa, 58, is currently the superintendent of Northpointe Christian Schools in Grand Rapids, Mich. He has an education degree in music, has held many significant leadership roles in the U.S. Air Force, taught at the Naval War College, and held a directorship of academic support at the Marine Corps University.
“I am blessed to assume leadership of an organization that is poised to take the next steps of leading and serving our member and affiliate schools,” Westa said. “I believe that future is very bright as we continue to honor God’s Word, provide a high-quality Christian education centered on our Reformed worldview, and supply resources and leadership in a way that serves our teachers, administrators, and school boards across the organization.”
