Born in France in 1900, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry grew up to love airplanes. The flying machines had just been invented, and Antoine was inspired to make one of his own. Though it didn’t take flight, Antoine’s career as a pilot eventually did.
When Antoine was of age to enlist in the military, he asked to join the aviation program. Years later, he delivered mail for an airline.
Flying for the military during World War II, Antoine witnessed destruction and despair, as well as the death of his close friend, also a pilot. Desperate to escape German-occupied France, Antoine fled to the United States. There he wrote The Little Prince, which eventually became world renowned.
