The beauty of David Crowder’s music is its variety. And Crowder’s first solo project, Neon Steeple, delivers the goods. Simple instruments such as banjo, fiddle, and mandolin give a distinctive bluegrass and country feel to the record. Energetic tunes and ballads will leave you thankful for God’s majesty, his forgiveness, and his hope. The song “Here’s My Heart” provokes an “Amen,” and you’ll realize that this life, with all its pain and suffering, will end when you hear “Ain’t No Grave.”
There are 14 songs on this work, including a short intro and an outro—something that seems to be a staple of Crowder music. The only real disappointment is the absence of a Crowder rock-and-roll offering. Maybe next time. (sixstepsrecords)
