Audrey Assad’s second record, Heart, is a work that features plenty of ballads and soft pop sound. She poured herself into this album, which she says is about “life, loving, and suffering,” by writing, cowriting, or arranging every song. The lyrics are personal, including her renditions of the traditional hymns “Sparrow” and “No Turning Back.” The last cut, “New Song” tells of a weary soul’s hope in God: “My heart is burning, but blessing and honor, and glory and power, praise and worship, belong to you.” (Sparrow Records)
