After having a Canadian flag brought in by courier to hang beside the American flag in the arena at Calvin College, Synod 2011 president Rev. James Dekker was presented with a red and white Canadian tie by Henry De Vries, Calvin College vice president.
“[De Vries] was so grateful for [the flag], that he gave me this tie,” explained Dekker, who has both American and Canadian citizenship.
The tie has a red maple leaf, similar to that of the Canadian flag, on the front.
While showing off his new tie to delegates, Dekker pointed out that the tie was, ironically, made in Korea.
