Mexican fiesta fever recently hit Calgary, Alberta, for a good cause.

Peter and Teena Oudman hosted the second annual Fiesta Mexicana, along with their daughter and son-in-law Geraldine and Jerry Vanderveen, all members of Emmanuel Christian Reformed Church in Calgary.

Fiesta Mexicana helps raise cash for CASA Connor, a place that helps enrich the lives of people with disabilities in Las Palmas, Mexico. It is named after Connor Vanderveen, Jerry and Geraldine’s son who was diagnosed with Hunter syndrome, a genetic degenerative disease.

“The dinner was very festive,” said Geraldine. She was especially appreciative of help received from the church’s young people’s group.

The Oudmans have spent half of every year in Puerto Vallarta, near Las Palmas, since 1993. Raising money for people there is close to their hearts. “We are very thrilled with the way progress has been made,” she said.

The Calgary fiesta, plus another one held in Radium, British Columbia, raised $40,000 for a house, furniture, and medical equipment in Las Palmas.
