Faith Alive is the publishing ministry of the Christian Reformed Church. Its mission is to provide resources that call people to follow Jesus Christ by helping people to understand, experience, and express the good news of God’s kingdom that transforms lives and communities worldwide.
Faith Alive is also the resource provider of the Reformed Church in America. In fact, more than half of our sales are to denominations other than the CRC (such as the Presbyterian Church), which enables us to produce more products in more categories than would otherwise be possible.
What’s New
After 24 years as the director of the denomination’s publishing ministry, Gary Mulder is retiring in November. During his tenure Mulder developed an organizational framework for an effective publishing ministry that has served tens of thousands of adults, teens, and children.
This year Faith Alive began offering webinars (seminars on the Web) to help people learn about Faith Alive’s Walk With Me and Kid Connection curricula and the Disciples faith-formation program for adults. Look for more Faith Alive webinars in the future.
The every household Banner continues to thrive, and feedback remains positive. New this year was Bob’s Blog at www.thebanner.org. You can find out what is on editor Bob DeMoor’s mind and join in the conversation.
Faith Alive’s worship department has been busy this year, preparing for the release of a series of songbooks leading up to the publication of a bi-denominational hymnal to be shared with the Reformed Church in America. The worship department also released Singing the New Testament, co-published with the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship this spring.
Alejandro Pimentel left in early 2008 as director of World Literature Ministries (WLM) to work with Christian Reformed World Missions in Mexico. Faith Alive recently named Jan Dijkman to serve as strategic developer for WLM. Dijkman will focus on identifying options for carrying out the work of Libros Desafío, WLM’s Spanish-language imprint.

New Format for Disciples Year 2: When customers asked for changes in year 2 of Disciples, Faith Alive listened. Year 2 is an intermediate-level study that explores spiritual practices. The new format now includes discussion guides and five thought-provoking devotional readings that lead up to each small group session. Topics include Prayer, Reading the Bible, Worship, Living in Community, and Overcoming Sin.

Discover Your Gifts Updated: Back by popular demand and now in its third edition, this best-selling five-session interactive course helps people identify and use their spiritual gifts. Participants can either fill out a gifts survey included in the book or complete the survey online.

Living Your Faith in a Messed Up World: A Look at the Contemporary Testimony: What difference does a Reformed perspective make in how we live out our faith? Teens can discover what the CRC’s Contemporary Testimony has to say and how this relates to current events in our world. Periodically updated online, teacher resources keep this study relevant in an ever-changing world. The course also includes video clips to use as group conversation starters.
