Project Canefire Connects Churches

“You go on your first trip, and you’re sold.”

Those are Paul Benthem’s words. He and other members of Lucas Christian Reformed Church in McBain, Mich., have traveled many times to Monte Palta in the Dominican Republic on a mission project called Project Canefire.

Project Canefire, now a nonprofit organization that includes 10 other denominations, has built 20 wells, along with many construction and community help projects. Most of the Christian Reformed Churches in Classis Northern Michigan (the regional group of churches) also participate.
