Competing in the state basketball tournament is not unusual for Western Christian High School of Hull, Iowa. But on March 7 Western Christian successfully defended the Class 2-A state championship title for the first time. Along the way, sixth-ranked Western Christian nipped unbeaten and top-ranked rival Pella Christian High School (67-61).
“This team was everything I’d want a team to be,” said coach Jim Eekhoff, a member of Hope CRC in Hull, who now has five state titles to his credit in 26 seasons. “Their attitude, humility, and presence represented our school the way we want them to.”
