Two rural churches near Holland, Mich., joined hands and land to raise crops to benefit Cambodia this past year.
Several members of Oakland and Niekerk Christian Reformed churches donated land to grow crops with the profits going to the Foods Resource Bank and the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee.
Dale Compagner from Oakland CRC said the proceeds of the growing project were designated to Cambodia for the rice intensification program under the guidance of CRWRC missionary Tom Post.
Over the winter planners from the two churches secured five parcels of donated or rented land and connected with suppliers who donated or matched gifts.
Carl Helder of Niekerk CRC noted that both congregations have deep roots in farming.
The harvest yielded 4,700 bushels of corn with another 685 bushels of soybeans, totaling approximately $25,000 for help in Cambodia.
The Foods Resource Bank works on behalf of 15 Christian denominations in the United States or their agencies, such as CRWRC. Community growing projects like the one done by the two Holland churches provide financial resources to the member organizations of FRB, who work with their in-country partners worldwide to help local communities become self-sufficient and food-secure.
Dale and Isla Compagner visited Cambodia in December and said the shared Foods Resource Bank project was “a real blessing.”
