Victor Muller never imagined that when he gave a devotional book to a military friend leaving for Qatar in 2004, it would blossom into a new ministry for his church.
His friend e-mailed Muller, asking for more devotionals to give to fellow soldiers. Then the chaplain of the unit asked for several hundred more books.
Muller asked his congregation, Grace Christian Reformed Church in Burke, Va., for help, and the ministry was started. Soon chaplains in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan asked for devotionals, material for Bible studies, and for grief, marriage, and separation counseling.
Grace CRC, a small church, supports this ministry with help from GEMS (a ministry for young girls), youth groups, and members of all ages.
An unexpected Thanksgiving offering from another church provided substantial help that has enabled them to ship more than 13,400 books to U.S. troops.
A thankful chaplain wrote, “Thank you for what you and your church are doing . . . and for your ministry and prayers. May God bless you and your church for furthering the gospel with the military!”
