Driven by the call of Micah 6:8, 400 deacons, champions, and supporters of the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee gathered in May at Covenant CRC in Edmonton, Alberta.
It was a global bazaar themed “For the Least of These,” the first event of its kind celebrating the work of CRWRC.
“Edmonton and the surrounding community have always shown strong support for CRWRC, but we felt there was a lack of knowledge and awareness among the youth, especially,” said Bany Castellanos, one of the events’ organizers. “We were very happy with the turnout, including many young people.”
“We chose the theme because CRWRC and deaconal ministry everywhere exist to carry out the ministry Jesus refers to: clothe the naked, feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, visit the imprisoned, and so on,” explained Rev. Roy Berkenbosch, chaplain and professor at The King’s University College in Edmonton. “Those actions need to be translated for the global realities we live in, in terms of development, peace, and justice.”
