The Christian Reformed Church in Nigeria celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, marking its beginning when missionaries arrived in Wukari in Taraba State. In 1918, the CRCN began its partnership with the CRC in North America when that denomination’s first missionary, Johanna Veenstra, requested that the responsibility for this area be given to the CRCNA. Today, the CRCN has about 100 congregations, more than 200 ministers, and more than 300,000 believers attending worship services. (REC)

Conservative Anglicans want an apology from the Episcopal Church for approving a gay bishop, said Asian archbishop Datuk Yong Ping Chung. Chung leads a splinter group called Anglican Mission in America, which ordains ex-Episcopal priests to serve as missionary bishops to the United States. If the U.S. church continues to stray from what Third World Anglican leaders see as clear teachings of the Bible, Asian and African archbishops will continue to support sending missionaries to the United States, Chung said. Some prominent evangelical leaders are asking the National Association of Evangelicals not to take an official position on global warming. “[It] is not a consensus issue, and our love for the Creator and respect for his creation does not require us to take a position,” reads an open letter signed by Prison Fellowship founder Chuck Colson, Focus on the Family founder James Dobson, and 20 others. “We believe that there should be room for Bible-believing evangelicals to disagree.” The Rev. Richard Cizik of the NAE said the organization is not planning to take a position on the issue. (RNS)
