Ecumenical Group Christian Churches Together Names New Executive Director
Monica Schaap Pierce

The steering committee of Christian Churches Together, USA, an ecumenical organization comprising 33 churches and communions including the Christian Reformed Church in North America, has appointed Monica Schaap Pierce as its new executive director. Schaap Pierce, a member of the Reformed Church in America, had been serving as interim executive director since October 2021. The new appointment is effective July 24.

“I am honored to lead this unique and holy communion of Christians,” Schaap Pierce said in a press release. “The intentional focus on relationship-building and mutual understanding that defines CCT is as important as ever given the urgency of unity in our divided world.”

Christian Churches Together was formed in 2001 and includes denominations and organizations from Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Historic Protestant, Historic Black, and Evangelical, and Pentecostal traditions. The group “provides a context,” its website says, “marked by prayer, worship, and fellowship—in which churches develop relationships with other churches and Christian organizations with whom they may have had little, if any, connection.”

Schaap Pierce, as ecumenical associate for the RCA, was a guest of the CRC’s synod in 2019.
