Acoustic quartet Acts of Congress provides a stunning blend of violin, mandolin, and guitar music in The Hymns That Made Us. The Birmingham, Ala., group offers 10 selections including “Nothing But the Blood,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Christ the Solid Rock,” “I’ll Fly Away,” “Amazing Grace,” and a lesser-known hymn, “Dear Refuge.” The record features a beautiful combination of pop, folk, gospel, and bluegrass. “The Hymns That Made Us is our tribute to the timeless songs that have become the soundtrack of our lives; the triumphs and tragedies,” said the group in a release. “The songs we're writing now and the album we just released have so much to say about who we are and what we believe,” said Adam Wright, who shares lead vocals with Connie Skellie. “I want people to see authenticity. I want them to feel served. I want them to find the joy we feel in this music." This album gives listeners the opportunity for reflection and toe-tapping. It’s beautiful artistry in this remixing of beloved hymns. (Residence/Centricity Music)
