Australian-born Rebecca St. James, a mainstay of Christian Contemporary Music in the 1990s, returns with a six-song EP titled “Dawn.” It’s her first studio record in nine years. “The foundation of the EP is the idea of dawn—a new sunrise, a new beginning, a new spring," St. James said in a release. "The theme throughout is God’s redemption; new seasons of joy after pain, and hope.” James’ famous brother, KING & COUNTRY’s Luke Smallbone, and Bethel Music’s Josh Baldwin and Brandon Lake join her on the recording. It’s a mixture of soft pop and ballads. Highlights include “Middle of the Fire”—an anthem of unshakeable trust in God, while the last song, “Alleluia Jesus,” begs heartfelt worship. James’ voice has matured but still exhibits beauty and simplicity. This record promises to excite fans for more James’ music, whereas newcomers will discover what makes her a Christian music treasure. (Heritage Music)
