For the last eight years, Keith and Kristyn Getty have been touring with a Christmas show, bringing their Irish-influenced interpretations of traditional Christmas carols and newly composed songs to audiences across North America. Before writing modern hymns, Keith Getty was an orchestrator for Irish flutist James Galway and that experience serves him well as he comes up with inventive ways of structuring songs that sound both familiar and fresh. The Gettys have assembled a gold standard band to present these concerts; a few special guests add to the variety and excitement.
The songs vary from the high-energy Irish reel of “Angels We Have Heard on High” to the more meditative “In the Bleak Midwinter.” Kristyn Getty’s voice is clear and strong and features prominently on most, but not all, of the songs. The high point of the album, though, may actually come from the audience. After guitarist Phil Keaggy leads in a beautiful instrumental version of “Silent Night,” the audience is invited to sing. The singing is reminiscent of being in a big church with a congregation joining in on a song that they know and love. It is truly striking. This is a wonderful album that is both worshipful and fun for the Christmas season. (Getty Music)
