ReNew Christian Reformed Church, Corvallis, Ore., scored big points in the community on Super Bowl Sunday. In addition to showing the game on a widescreen TV and providing snacks and appetizers, the church provided a carnival for kids.

Nancy Gerrit volunteered to run a fish pond where kids could catch prizes and candy. “I love carnivals,” said Gerrit, “I know how fun it is for kids. We’re thrilled to provide this.”
About 30 children went fishing for prizes, tossed a beanbag for candy, won homemade treats on a Cookie Walk, and had their faces painted.
Amy Van Beek said, “Our church is about community. There has to be something for kids.”
Josh Van Til, pastor of ReNew CRC, said, “Everything we do is about including people where they are and many people are in the middle of raising families. So whether it is a community group gathering or an all-church event, we are always dreaming about how we can involve families.”
Following the carnival games, the children were invited to relax in the auditorium and watch a Disney movie on a large screen until the big game was over.
“This is just one way that our community shares life together and grows in unity. We are hopeful that even as we eat, play, and laugh together, Christ is honored and his kingdom is being expanded,” said Van Til.
This is the second year ReNew CRC held a Super Bowl event; they plan to make it an annual event.
