Synod 2008 approved and welcomed 53 new candidates for ministry of the Word in the Christian Reformed Church.
The candidates, five women and 48 men, were introduced by Rev. Thea Leunk, vice president of synod and chair of the CRC’s Candidacy Committee.
“Candidates for minister of the Word, we thank God for you,” she said. “We do not know what God is calling you to do, or where God will be calling you to live and work. But the One who began a good work in you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ.”
Fourteen of the candidates came through the Ecclesiastical Program for Ministerial Candidacy, a program that provides an orientation to the theology and ministry of the CRC and is required for those whose degree in theology is from a seminary other than Calvin Theological Seminary, the CRC’s official theological school.
