Mixed Media, the culture commentary and review section of the official magazine of the Christian Reformed Church has a new editor. Lorilee Craker, a member of Madison Square CRC in Grand Rapids, Mich., was appointed earlier this month and began work March 21. She takes the position left by Kristy Quist.
Craker is an experienced entertainment writer who sees conversations about culture—whether it’s the latest Netflix series or book everyone is buzzing about—as a bridge. “When we connect with those stories, we connect with the wider culture, and it can be a total bridge,” she said. “I feel like when we’re engaging in that way, it can lead to so many conversations.”
Looking at the world of arts and entertainment from a Reformed perspective, Mixed Media presents reviews of books, movies, music, television, websites, and more. Craker will write for the section as well as coordinate and edit the work of contributing reviewers. Reader-submitted reviews are also welcome.
The Banner’s editor in chief, Shiao Chong, said, “I am excited to have Lorilee join our team. She brings an incredible wealth of experience and love for books and pop culture that is deeply informed by her Christian faith.”
Craker is a published author, having written or co-written 15 books, and for more than 17 years she covered entertainment news for The Grand Rapids Press. She also maintains a blog on a website she calls Peace, Love, and Raspberry Cordial. Born in Winnipeg and raised in the Mennonite-Brethren church, Craker has now called Grand Rapids home for 25 years.
