With large doses of self-deprecating humor, Steve Peifer shares his journey from being the manager of a large multinational computer systems company to becoming a college guidance counselor at Rift Valley Academy in Kijabe, Kenya, a school for missionaries’ children.
In 1997, the Peifers learned that their unborn son had trisomy 13. He lived for eight days. Running from their grief, the family took on what they thought would be a one-year commitment at the academy. Living in Kenya, the family encountered drought, famine, and the repercussions of AIDS.
Beginning small, the Peifers, backed by a large supporting community, started a lunch program at a rural school. Thirteen years later, the program feeds 20,000 children each school day.
