The British Columbia provincial gold medal for girls high school volleyball was won by Surrey (British Columbia) Christian School (formerly Fraser Valley Christian High).
It is the first provincial banner won under the school’s new name.
Krista Hogewoning, grade 12, was named the tournaments most valuable player. Katy Klomps, grade 12, and Rachel Windhorst, grade 10, both received First Team All-Star honors. Klomps and Hogewoning were named top female players in the province.
The team is coached by three young women, all school alumni. The girls credit a strong coaching history in the shaping of their team. “From first practice to final game, I felt I was growing not only as a player but as a person,” said Klomps. “The coaches taught me skills but also the kind of person to be on the court.”
