The Quinte Christian High School boys volleyball team finished its season with the provincial championship.
It was especially exciting for the Belleville, Ontario, school because it was the first time their school has earned gold in any event.
Head coach John Bertelink and assistant coaches Brent Smeenk and Matt Bombay all credit the mental toughness of the players as a contributing factor to their success. This was the third year in a row where Quinte faced the same school for the finals, and even though they lost the first two of five games, they came back to win three consecutive games, clinching the title.
It is the second year in a row that Christian high schools held three of the four top positions in the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSSA).
Beacon Christian School in St. Catherines, Ontario, placed third and London (Ontario) District Christian Secondary School placed fourth.
