On May 13 members of Terrace (B.C.) Christian Reformed Church boarded a chartered bus bound for Smithers, B.C.
They joined CRC congregations from Prince George, Houston, Telkwa, and Smithers to celebrate the CRC’s 150th anniversary.
Some 600 people gathered for worship and fellowship at the outdoor service, held at the Smithers fairgrounds. The celebration was planned by the Smithers and Telkwa churches, with participation from all five congregations. Rev. Scott Hoezee was the guest pastor, combining the weekend with a retreat for the pastors.
Rev. Dan Hoogland, one of the organizers, said, “It was worth it because it helped us to see in a tangible way that we are part of something much bigger than our individual congregations. Sometimes we feel isolated in the north, and the service was a reminder of our participation in God’s wider kingdom in the past, for the present, and into the future.”
