CRC Marine Killed in Iraq

Marine Cpl. Joshua Pickard, a member of Gateway Community Christian Reformed Church in Merced, Calif., died in Iraq Dec. 19, 2006. Pickard was killed by enemy fire while in combat in the Anbar province of Iraq.

Pickard, 20, a member of the 2nd Marine Division, had been a Marine for three years and was halfway through his second tour in Iraq.

At the funeral Rev. Al Schaap recounted a mission trip to Mexico with the youth group that became a turning point in Pickard’s life.

He is survived by parents Larry and Terry Pickard and three brothers.
