Vince Apostol (far right), the pioneer and “father” of the Christian Reformed Church’s ministries in the Philippines, went to his eternal reward on Jan. 1, 2007. Apostol and his wife, Lucy, were the first CRC missionaries to the Philippines. Apostol had been struggling with health issues for the past few years but continued to serve the church whenever he had the strength. His daughter, Faith Joy Van’t Land, who lives in Grand Rapids, recalled a visit with her father in 2006 during which he said, “I will be in heaven someday, smiling with Jesus, so don’t be sad.”
