Sally Lloyd-Jones, renowned Christian author of The Jesus Storybook Bible and numerous board books such as Strong, Known, and Happy, all based on the Psalms, joins forces with illustrator Kevin Waldron in a joyous romp through the lives of children who are encouraged to realize that “today is for you!”
With an explosion of brilliant illustrations and vigorous poetry, young children will be drawn into the celebration of their day from sunrise to sunset: “Shout out, / Good / Morning! / Shout out, Hooray! / Shout it together ... / HOORAY / FOR / TODAY! / Jump up and smile / And take a bow. / When is Today? / Exactly NOW.”
Children are encouraged to see that in this world to which they belong, they can encounter each day with curiosity, an adventurous spirit, a compassionate heart, and joy and laughter. They will glimpse a great big world with endless places to explore and meet children of diverse ethnic groups and abilities who are wandering and wondering and loving creation and the people in it.
Though Lloyd-Jones doesn’t mention God’s work in the world as she does in many of her other books, this reader sees Lloyd-Jones’s Christian faith displayed throughout her cheerful, hopeful narrative. (Candlewick)
