Billy Jago and his 12-year-old son, Charles, discover a flint stone carved by a magic man in ages past. The Flint Heart, as it was named, makes its owners’ hearts hateful and cruel. Charles and his family watch helplessly as their loving father becomes a tyrant. Unity, Charles’s younger sister, suggests that they go to the fairies for assistance. There they are given tasks to work toward the Flint Heart’s destruction. John Rocco’s stunning illustrations enrich this insightful fantasy abridged from Eden Phillpotts’ 1910 story. Ages 7-12.
