In this compilation of essays, readers of N. T. Wright’s previous books will recognize overlaps of themes and biblical exegesis found in his earlier works. It is his hope that these essays, presented at various conferences and directed especially toward an American audience, will inspire readers to delve more deeply into the “wider discussions” found in his books.
Each essay is framed within a biblical worldview that acknowledges three things: “the goodness and God-givenness of the present creation”; the fact that “the world is also full of radical evil”; and that the Bible speaks of "new heavens and a new earth, the renewal and restoration of creation and not its abandonment.”
Though readers might not agree with Wright on every point, they will find in Surprised by Scripture the work of a brilliant yet humble servant of God. (HarperOne)
