Adam Perez is an assistant professor of worship studies at Belmont University in Nashville and has a particular interest in exploring what is happening in contemporary worship. The Worship Nerds features conversations about the theology and the ethnography (the customs and habits) of what goes on in contemporary worship with researchers. The podcast is designed to connect those who do research in this area to the people who are leading worship in churches.
Each episode ranges in length from 35 to 90 minutes. In these conversations, Perez asks questions regarding a topic, usually from a book or an article written by the guest that explores some aspect of worship.
While music is one of the defining aspects of contemporary worship, Perez does not restrict his conversations to just music. A recent episode, for example, covered contemporary preaching styles with Noel Snyder from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship. But each episode features fascinating guests and interesting conversations. Perez is a good interviewer, asking thoughtful questions and pushing the conversation to new areas while at the same time, keeping the tone light. If you have an interest in worship, The Worship Nerds is worth checking out.
