This Is Us is a much-lauded, 105-episode TV series that has been celebrated for its emotional depth and nuanced portrayal of family dynamics across generations. From Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca Pearson (Mandy Moore) to their children—Kevin (Justin Hartley), Kate (Chrissy Metz), and Randall (Sterling K. Brown)—the characters have resonated with audiences due to their relatability and the authenticity of their experiences.

The last season of six unfolds during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Rebecca Pearson is approaching the end of her life after battling with Alzheimer’s disease for years. With its trademark non-linear narrative, the show delves into the past, present, and future of the Pearson family, uncovering new revelations and tying up loose ends. Viewers are taken back in time to learn about how Miguel grew up as an immigrant and how he and Rebecca started dating 13 years after Jack’s death.

While caring for Rebecca, Randall has the surprising opportunity to learn more about his birth mother, Laurel (Jennifer C. Holmes), who died in Louisiana. Kevin’s love life and Kate’s marriage are also explored in this poignant last season.

One of the show's strengths has been its exploration of sensitive and timely topics, including race, identity, mental health, addiction, adoption, and family trauma. By handling these themes with sensitivity and thoughtfulness, the show invites viewers to contemplate the deeper meaning of love, compassion, and the interconnectedness of humanity. The bigger picture is about how people love each other despite their imperfections and past mistakes, as the Bible says, “Love covers over all wrongs” (Prov. 10:12).

If you haven’t started watching the show, all six seasons are available on Netflix and Hulu with subscriptions, and Apple TV and Amazon Prime for $1.99 per episode. (Hulu, rated TV-14 with mild violence and suggestive language)
