Sidewalk Prophets’ signature lyrics feature storytelling, relationships, and life matters, and their fifth full-length album, “Looking Up,” beautifully fits their objectives. The album features high-energy pop with a couple of ballads and a hip hop selection welcoming Mr. Talkbox. Themes include following Christ, extending grace to ourselves and forgiving others. “Hurt People (Love Will Heal Our Hearts)” is a convicting and meditative song, and the chorus states: “Hurt people; Hurt people; Broken hearts; Break hearts; Life bruises unequal; Everyone fights a battle that's hard; Grace where grace is needed; No matter who you are; Hurt people; Hurt people; But love will heal our hearts.” Other highlights are “Come to Jesus,” a ballad and an invitation song; “Unbelievable,” with rising artist Ben Fuller centering on the journey to the unknown with God’s leading; and “Good for the Soul,” which offers a powerful guitar solo as part of the bridge. The title cut “Looking Up,” with American Idol alum Megan Danielle, talks about rock-bottom times with God as the answer. Sidewalk Prophets’ music feels like listening to a friend discuss important matters. It’s encouraging and challenging. (Curb Records)
