Mike Menning of Salt Lake City, Utah, pastors evangelical Christians who are working in the heart of Mormon country.
Menning began his ministry leading the Mountain Springs Community Christian Reformed Church, where he remains a member. However, he felt called to expand his ministry from pastoring a church to pastoring pastors.
“What God really laid on my heart was that I needed to move to multiplication of my time. If you have healthy pastors and healthy church planters, you are going to lead more people to Christ,” he said.
Menning works with both established pastors and church planters to ensure healthy leadership of the churches in Utah. When working with established pastors he meets with them one on one. “I just give them a safe place to talk. If they are having a tough time in a certain area, we have other pastors that will surround them and support them.”
He also creates groups for pastors who are working on a church plant. “In some cases I mentor them, in some cases I’m a coach. Primarily have them meet together in clusters as support groups.”
Ken Blinn is one of his mentees. Blinn is planting a Southern Baptist church in Salt Lake City. “Mike puts us together, and we can learn from each other, help each other, and become good friends. He’s been able to connect me with people I didn’t know about.”
