The girls’ basketball team of Immanuel Christian School in Lethbridge, Alberta, won the provincial championship in its division for the third year in a row. Many of the girls belong to Christian Reformed churches in the Lethbridge area.
The girls strongly support each other, explained head coach Wendy Procee, a member of Maranatha CRC in Lethbridge. “That was our goal—to stay together. This is an amazing team, and everything just came together. It is quite a blessing.”
The team played its championship game against Edmonton (Alberta) Christian School.
Immanuel Christian’s athletic director, Duane Konynenbelt, believes the success of the program can be credited to all the coaches, parents, and athletes in their community. “They understand that Christian schools need strong co-curricular programs that allow students to use and develop all the gifts that God has given them,” he said.
