“Out of all the years I’ve been in church and reading the Bible, I really learned to better understand the Bible,” said Naya Lewis, explaining why she so enjoyed the third annual Urban Youth Conference, held Aug. 11-13.

Heritage Christian Reformed Church in Kalamazoo, Mich., hosted this year’s conference. Each is designed to relate to urban youths from diverse ethnic backgrounds so that they can discover their identity in Jesus Christ.

Rev. Denise Posie from Immanuel CRC, Kalamazoo, Mich., and Lawrence Beasely, 16, from Chicago, inspired 110 teens and leaders to grow in grace. The conferees came from California, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, and Ohio. Many of the attendees had no church background.

According to Rosetta Polk-Pugh, one of the conference organizers, three youths made commitments to Christ.
