What started as an outreach to young men and women playing basketball in the church parking lot has grown to an annual three-on-three tournament that this year drew 38 teams.
Dearborn (Mich.) Christian Fellowship hosted its fifth tournament Aug. 10 and 11. Participants this year ranged in age from 9 to 30. The four-member teams are divided into five brackets, which consider age, skill level, and height. The tournament is a double elimination with a consolation bracket. Winners in each bracket receive a team trophy and individual trophies. Consolation winners also receive trophies.
During the tournament the Dearborn church provides popcorn, cotton candy, snow cones, a bounce house, and face painting. The church also sells Gatorade, bottled water, and sandwiches at a minimum price. A DJ provides entertainment and makes numerous announcements of games and winners throughout the day.
Approximately 150 people attended this year’s Friday-night dinner (each team must send a representative), during which the church always includes a clear presentation of the gospel.
