Classis Eastern Canada and neighboring Classis Quinte have both canceled regional training events for deacons and other ministry leaders due to lack of registrants.
Classis Quinte suspended its spring 2011 event after the 2010 event was cancelled. The classis is going through a re-visioning process, and part of that work will have implications for the diaconal training in the classis.
In Classis Eastern Canada, a diaconal training conference is usually held twice each year. Topics have ranged from the role of deacons in financial help, to supporting terminally ill people, to addressing poverty in Canada.
Despite the fact that this event was cancelled, Ineke Neutel, coordinator of the diaconal events, said that previous events were well received. “Everybody who attends really enjoys it, including myself, and evaluations are very good.”
