A conservative interest group has filed a series of lawsuits against Walgreens after the drugstore chain fired four pharmacists for refusing to dispense the “morning-after” pill to patients.
The lawsuits, filed in Illinois by the Washington-based American Center for Law and Justice, indicate an escalating legal battle pitting religious pharmacists who say filling such prescriptions violates their beliefs against drug manufacturers and patients demanding medicine they are legally entitled to. Spouses who attend religious services together are less likely to divorce, according to new research from the University of Michigan. A study done by researchers connected to the Institute for Social Research examined how religion and race affected the risk of divorce for couples in the first seven years of marriage.
The study showed black couples are at higher risk of divorce than whites, but regardless of race, couples who attended religious services together were less likely to divorce. (RNS)
Religious relief agencies scrambled to respond when mudslides in the Philippines engulfed hundreds of homes and left an estimated 1,500 people missing and feared dead.
Joe Lamigo, team leader for the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee in the Philippines, said that food and blankets are the most immediate needs in the affected area. He said Christian Reformed Church congregations in the Philippines will be involved in food collection. (RNS)
