Rev. Leonard Vander Zee has been appointed the new editor in chief of Faith Alive Christian Resources, the publishing ministry of the Christian Reformed Church.
His new position will give him responsibility for all Faith Alive publications, including church school, leadership, evangelism, and worship resources. He will also serve as Faith Alive’s theological editor.
Vander Zee, 61, has been a minister in the Christian Reformed Church for 36 years, serving congregations in Michigan, Indiana, New York, and Iowa.
Vander Zee told the denomination’s Board of Trustees that his many years of ministry experience are crucial to understanding the church and what its educational needs are.
“Culture is changing, media and technologies are changing,” he said. “That’s going to be a big factor as we look forward in church education. I’m interested very much in how technology interacts with the life of the church. I know that it’s important and useful and must be thought about very carefully.”
Synod 2005 declared 2007-08 a year dedicated to faith formation, and that excites Vander Zee. “I’m excited about the discipleship program, spiritual formation for adults. In our church, adults simply do not take seriously enough their growth in faith and knowledge in Christ.”
Vander Zee, currently pastor of South Bend (Ind.) CRC, assumes his new duties Dec. 18, 2006.
